What We Do
Powering Potential expands access to digital education in rural Tanzania through solar-powered computer labs, offline curriculum, and locally led training.
Our work strengthens schools, builds digital confidence, and prepares students for the opportunities of the modern world.
Our Process
Building Together
We collaborate with school communities and our Tanzanian partners at the Potential Enhancement Foundation (PEF) to design and implement each installation. Local leadership ensures cultural alignment, shared ownership, and long-term sustainability.
Solar-Powered Learning
We install dependable solar energy systems and fully equipped computer labs, giving students access to modern learning tools even in schools without electricity or internet connectivity.
Building Tech Confidence
Our Tanzanian team trains teachers, Computer Managers, and students to use digital tools with ease. Ongoing mentoring, monitoring, and support help schools integrate technology into daily teaching and learning.
Unlocking Opportunities
When students gain digital literacy and the confidence to use technology, new possibilities open. They are better prepared for national exams, higher education, and future employment — creating pathways out of precarity for themselves and their communities.
Since 2006, Powering Potential has impacted over 40,000 students and teachers at 40 schools. We have seen positive changes in educational and employment opportunities, received overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents and schools, and witnessed a 500% increase in the number of students transferring into our pilot school from other district schools in Tanzania.
Solar-Powered Computers
Reliable power is essential for learning. Our labs are designed for rural environments where electricity is limited or unavailable. Each installation includes:
- A dedicated solar energy system
- 20 locally sourced computer
- A classroom projector
- Durable furniture and secure lab setup
This infrastructure ensures students and teachers can depend on the technology every day.
Digital Learning Content
Every lab includes curriculum-aligned digital resources through Shule Direct, Tanzania’s approved offline secondary school curriculum. Students and teachers access:
Subject lessons mapped to national standards
Practice questions and revision materials
Digital textbooks and learning tools
Software for typing, coding, and research skills
Students learn — even without internet — using the same curriculum used in urban, connected schools.
Training & Local Support
Technology only works when people feel confident using it. Our Tanzanian team provides:
Hands-on training for teachers
Ongoing mentoring for school-based Computer Managers
Regular monitoring and maintenance
Quick support and troubleshooting when needed
Local expertise ensures each lab remains fully operational and fully utilized.
