At Powering Potential, we believe students everywhere deserve access to the tools and training to realize their potential, regardless of where they were born. Through solar-powered computer labs and digital education, we’re closing the gap for underserved students in rural Tanzania. As we scale our impact and deepen our roots, we are seeking dedicated leaders to join our Board of Directors and help guide our next chapter.
Who We're Looking For
We welcome expressions of interest from individuals who:
Believe in our mission and want to help unlock access, opportunity, and equity for students in underserved communities
Have experience in areas that support our strategic growth, such as fundraising, corporate partnerships, legal, education, or global development
Understand nonprofit governance, or have served on other boards
Uphold our values of diversity, inclusion, and equity, and value lived experience and varied perspectives
Are ready to roll up their sleeves and contribute time, ideas, and resources to help us grow
What Board Members Do
Powering Potential board members are hands-on partners in our growth. Responsibilities include:
- Championing our mission and helping shape our strategic direction
- Attending monthly board meetings (1 hour via Zoom, usually the first Tuesday)
- Participating in at least one committee or project-based task force
- Supporting or securing $2,500 annually through personal giving or fundraising
- Acting as ambassadors to expand our network and reach
- Reviewing board materials in advance and staying informed on organizational priorities
- Respecting confidentiality, upholding legal duties, and embracing open, collaborative communication

Current Needs
We are especially interested in candidates with experience in:
- International development or work in emerging markets
- Legal backgrounds
- Fundraising or philanthropic networks
- Technology (infrastructure, edtech, or corporate connections)
- Corporate sponsorships or strategic partnerships
Please note: While these skills are a current priority, we welcome interest from all who align with our mission.
