Our Commitment to Transparency & Global Impact

Powering Potential is committed to transparency, responsible stewardship, and meaningful results.
Here are the independent verifications, global frameworks, and policies that guide our work and demonstrate our accountability to students, communities, and supporters.

Transparency

We maintain up-to-date profiles on leading nonprofit evaluation platforms so donors and partners can easily verify our credentials, financials, and impact.

Sustainable Development Goal Alignment

Powering Potential’s work contributes directly to several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Our solar-powered computer labs, digital curriculum, and training programs create long-term educational and economic opportunities for students in rural Tanzania.

SDG 4- Quality Education

Powering Potential expands access to modern learning tools for students in rural Tanzania through solar-powered computer labs and offline digital curriculum.

Our program ensures learners have the same quality educational resources as their urban peers.

SDG 5- Gender Equality

Technology access helps bridge gender gaps in education.

Our programs support girls’ full participation in digital learning, building confidence, skills, and opportunities for future studies and employment.

SDG 7- Affordable & Clean Energy

Reliable solar power is essential for learning in schools without access to the electrical grid.

By installing renewable energy systems, we ensure that students and teachers have dependable technology every day.

SDG 8- Decent Work & Economic Growth

Digital literacy opens doors to employment, higher education, and economic mobility.

Students in our partner schools gain the skills needed to pursue meaningful work and contribute to long-term economic growth in their communities.

SDG 17- Partnerships for the Goals

Our collaboration with the Potential Enhancement Foundation (PEF) in Tanzania ensures that our work is locally led, sustainable, and aligned with national education priorities.

Together, we strengthen impact through shared expertise and community partnership.

Equipment Donation Policy

We often receive offers to donate equipment, especially computers and laptops. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of those who want to help, but in most cases it is more effective to purchase equipment locally in Tanzania.

Below are a few reasons why.

Locally Available, High-Quality Equipment

Good-quality computers are readily available from Tanzanian vendors. Purchasing equipment locally keeps donor funds in the community and strengthens the local economy, creating a greater positive impact where we work.

Avoiding Customs Delays and Fees

Powering Potential follows a strict policy of not paying extra-judicial fees. Unfortunately, equipment shipped from abroad can be delayed indefinitely in customs or never released. In some cases, electronics are at risk of damage or theft. Buying locally removes these risks and ensures equipment reaches our schools securely.

Compatible Power Standards

Tanzania uses different voltage and plug standards than the U.S. Imported computers typically require adapters and voltage converters, which add significant cost and complexity. Locally purchased equipment is already compatible with Tanzanian power systems, reducing installation challenges.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

Buying equipment locally reduces long-distance shipping emissions, making it the more environmentally responsible choice for our work and for the planet.

Lower Shipping and Customs Costs

Shipping computers from the U.S. or Europe is expensive — sometimes costing as much as purchasing the same number of devices locally. As a small organization committed to stewarding donor funds wisely, local sourcing is almost always more efficient and cost-effective.

Faster Delivery and Reliable Support

Local vendors provide quicker delivery, easier replacement or repair, and ongoing support when equipment needs servicing. This ensures that schools receive functioning equipment on time and that our programs run smoothly.
